About PENN Camp

 

University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA

 

Overview:

The goal of the camp is to continue your development as a player while immersing you in and exposing you to a competitive college tennis environment. While technique will be evaluated and addressed, the aim of the camp is to focus on how to play and how best to prepare for college tennis.

  • 12 hours (3 day camp) 20 hours (5 day camp) of on court collegiate style drill, match play for UTR ratings and fitness training

  • College style training exclusively with college coaches 

  • Get exposure and network with college coaches

  • improve your skills and learn singles and doubles strategy specific to college tennis. 

  • In class seminars to motivate and educate players on how to prepare for college tennis 

  • T-shirt, prizes and much more!

Facilities: 

the Hamlin Tennis Center is the home of the Penn men's and women's tennis teams and is one of the finest collegiate facilities in the country! Housing:

The Resident Program includes meals, 24-hour adult supervision and luxury hotel accommodations at the Sheraton University City (located next to campus and walking distance to the courts). All rooms are double or triple occupancy. Specific roommates can be requested, or if no request is made, players will be assigned a roommate of the same gender and age. The Commuter Program, which does not include overnight accommodations, is also an available option.

Transportation & Airport Pickup Service:

Regional Rail service (SEPTA), which includes an Airport Line that runs directly from the Philadelphia International Airport to the University City station. University City station is only a few steps away from Penn's campus. The cost is approx. $10 each way. Campers must bring cash to pay for tickets. 

 

Students flying unaccompanied by an adult can be met by a member of our coaching staff at the rail station in Philadelphia International Airport , according to the following schedule:

5 Day Camp

Schedule your arrival into the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) on Friday, June 22 between 1100 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and your departure on Tuesday, June 26 after 4:30 p.m.

2:15-3:00 p.m. - Resident check-in at Sheraton University City Hotel. 

3:15-3:45 p.m. - Commuter Check in at Penn Indoor Tennis Courts

4:00-4:15 p.m. - Welcome seminar (coaches introductions)

4:30-5:00 p.m. - Player warm-up and evaluation

5:00-7:30 p.m. - College Style practices

7:30 p.m.          - Commuters get picked up

7:30-8:30 p.m. - Dinner for resident campers

9:00-9:15 p.m. – Meeting for resident campers at hotel

10:15 p.m. - Lights out

Saturday June 16 - Camp Day 2

7:30-8:00 a.m. – Breakfast for residents

8:00-8:15 a.m.  - Commuters Check in at Penn Indoor Tennis Courts

8:30-11:00 a.m. - UTR Match play (singles & doubles) & college style fitness

11:00-12:00 p.m. – Lunch/Rest 

12:00-1:00 p.m.   - College coach presentations

1:00-5:00 p.m. – UTR Match play (singles & doubles) & college style fitness
5:00-6:15 p.m. –  Presentations for Parents and campers by Founder Tarek Merchant and Host Coach David Geatz (UPENN), followed by College coaches Q&A session

6:15 p.m.          - Commuters get picked up

6:30-7:30 p.m. – Dinner for Residents. 

7:30-10:00 p.m. - Evening activities for resident campers

10:15 p.m. – Lights out 

 

Sunday June 17 - Camp Day 3

7:30-8:00 a.m. - Breakfast for residents

8:00-8:15 a.m.   - Commuters Check in at Penn Indoor Tennis Courts

8:30-12:00 p.m. – College Style drills and team match play

12:00-1:15 p.m. - Lunch/Rest

1:15-2:15 p.m. - one point tournament and bumper games

2:15-2:30 p.m. – Closing Ceremony; Camp concludes for 3 day campers

Continued schedule for 5 day campers

3:00-3:30 p.m. - On court for “Team Ball Game”

3:30-5:30 p.m. - College Style team match play (singles & doubles)

5:30 p.m.          - Commuters get picked up

6:00-7:00 p.m. - Dinner for resident camper

7:00-10:00 p.m. - ​Evening Activities

Monday June 25 - Camp Day 4
